Félix Rocha DOC Alenquer wine is produced from the Touriga Nacional, Syrah, Touriga Franca and Alicante Bouschet grape varieties. The vineyards are planted on clay-limestone soils from the Jurassic period and benefit from the age of the plants, more than a decade old, the sun's exposure to the northwest and the dedicated work of the viticulture, resulting in high quality grapes. The average yield is 40hl per hectare.
The grapes are harvested by hand at the beginning of September for Touriga Nacional and at the end of September for the other varieties, guaranteeing a harvest at the peak of phenolic and oenological ripeness. The grapes are picked into 20kg boxes and quickly transported to the winery to preserve quality. The process includes cold pre-fermentation maceration, followed by alcoholic fermentation at a controlled temperature with gentle pumping over for better extraction of color and aromatic compounds. Malolactic fermentation takes place in French and American oak barrels.
Aging takes place in 70% French oak and 30% American oak for 12 months, followed by bottle aging.
This wine has a dark, intense garnet color. The aroma has notes of ripe black fruit, spices and vanilla.
The palate is intense, with firm, soft tannins, balanced acidity and great depth. The finish is long and elegant, showing complexity and structure.
It has an alcohol content of 16.5%, a total acidity of 7.05g per liter, a pH of 3.44 and reducing sugars of 8g per liter.
For conservation purposes, we recommend storing this wine in a horizontal position, away from direct light, in a cool place with some humidity. This wine has not been filtered or stabilized and may create deposits over time. The expected shelf life is 15 to 20 years.
It should be drunk in appropriate glasses at a temperature of 16 to 18 degrees Celsius. It pairs well with spicy meat dishes, long-cooked game and long-aged cheeses.
The winemaker in charge is Luís Maia.
